At any rate, things have been going quite well. This past Friday, June 1, we made our first airline trip since last October--this time from Cleveland to Newark to Boston, where Matt picked us up and brought us to Cambridge. We have been happily ensconced here at their house since then. I'm glad to report that the flight was really less of a strain than we had thought it might be. We made use of the wheelchair availability to get over the long intra-airport walks, and Steve was able to manage the short ones okay, including rolling his own suitcase from baggage claim out to the passenger pickup area. The TSA people and airline personnel were all very helpful.
Saturday we enjoyed a visit from Charlie as well as Becky and her kids. Sunday and Monday we had quiet days at home--Sunday with the family, and much of Monday just Steve and me resting up while Celeste and Matt were at work and Dylan at day care. This morning (Tuesday) we went with Celeste and Dylan to the children's floor of the Cambridge Public Library--a very impressive setup, and pleasantly rather quiet for the first hour or so before the story-hour crowd began to arrive. :) Steve and Dylan are both napping now.
This is the longest stretch of days we've spent here, and we're delighted that Dylan is getting used to us and allowing us to participate in his play and his reading and other routines much more than he has done on our weekend-only visits. So for that reason as well as others, we're very glad to have made the trip. We are here until Friday, June 8.
When we get home, we will rest up on Saturday and then head out to Columbus for Steve to participate June 11-12 in a school-accreditation training session for which he has enrolled. Then June 13-16 I will go to Denver for a professional conference; Melissa will drive up from Silver Spring to hold down the fort with Steve while I am away. (On June 13, Steve will go for his next scheduled chemo infusion with Clair's help; Melissa will arrive to take over on that day in late afternoon or early evening.) All in all, a very active schedule especially compared to what we've been up to in the past few months. We are grateful to have been able to visit both kids now, and hopeful of more such increasing activity ahead.
Ongoing thanks, as usual, to all of you who continue to visit and get in touch as well as to others sending good vibes our way in whatever ways you have of doing so.
Cheers,
Carol
